Join YPWACC for an exclusive, small-group experience at the McColl Center on May 14th from 6:00–8:30 p.m. Threaded Memories is a hands-on textile workshop where personal stories and artistic expression come together in a powerful, creative setting.
The workshop is led by a visiting artist from the European Union’s Transatlantic Rising Stars Project, a prestigious international residency program hosted on the East Coast exclusively by McColl Center! Ally Nolan (Rosslare, Ireland) explores the cultural and historical significance of textiles across communities, while collaborating artist Nastassja Swift (Petersburg, Virginia) brings a sculptural, storytelling approach rooted in African Diasporic traditions and collective memory. Together, they offer a rare opportunity to engage with globally recognized artists in an intimate setting.
In this guided session, participants are invited to bring a piece of fabric or clothing that holds meaning for them, along with a photograph that relates to it (some fabric will also be provided). For example, this could be a grandparent’s old shirt paired with an image of them. Through accessible techniques and thoughtful instruction, you’ll explore how materials can carry memory, identity, and emotion, leaving with a deeply personal keepsake.
No prior experience is needed. With only ten seats available, this experience is intentionally limited to foster connection, conversation, and creativity.
