Kingsley, Chief of Staff of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) who will discuss the global security issues in Africa as it relates to the regular political turmoil in the region, the spread of emergent health threats across borders and the growth of groups like Boko Haram that promote terror and constant crisis in the African continent.

Major General Kingsley will also address AFRICOM’s role in concert with interagency and international partners to help build defense capabilities, respond to crisis, and deter and defeat transnational threats in order to advance U.S. national interests and promote regional security, stability, and prosperity in Africa.

Biography

Maj Gen Michael J. Kingsley is Chief of Staff, Headquarters United States Africa Command. He is responsible for synchronizing the activities of and ensuring the proper functioning of the command’s joint and interagency staff. He is also responsible for the integration and cross-directorate communication necessary to ensure the U.S. Africa Command staff executes and fulfills the commander’s intent for all Department of Defense activities in the U.S. Africa Command area of responsibility.

General Kingsley received his commission through the Officer Training School in 1984. He has held positions at the Air Staff, Joint Special Operations Command and Joint Staff. He previously commanded the 20th Special Operation Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla., Aviation Tactics Evaluation Group, Fort Bragg, N.C, the Air Force Inspection Agency, Kirtland Air force base, N.M., and the 23rd Air Force, Hurlburt Field, Florida.

He is a command pilot with more than 3,200 flying hours, primarily in MH-53J/M, HH-3 and UH-1. Prior to assuming his current position, he was the Director, International Security Assistance Force/Non- Security Ministries Ministerial Advisory Group, Kabul, Afghanistan.
