Biography:
Dr. Jennifer Nuzzo is a Senior Scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering and the Department of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations. An epidemiologist by training, her work focuses on global health security, with a focus on pandemic preparedness, outbreak detection and response, health systems as they relate to global health security, biosurveillance, and infectious disease diagnostics. She directs the Outbreak Observatory, which conducts, in partnership with frontline public health practitioners, operational research to improve outbreak preparedness and response.
Dr. Vin Gupta MD, MPA, is a Critical Care Pulmonologist and Affiliate Faculty at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, part of the University of Washington. He’s currently Principal Scientist and Chief Medical Officer of COVID-19 Response for Amazon.com, Inc. He was previously helping to lead clinical strategy for Amazon Care before the pandemic, and prior to that, helped lead the pulmonary roadmap for the Apple Series 6 product launch in a part-time role at Apple. Prior to his career in health technology, his background focused on epidemic preparedness, with relevant roles at the US CDC’s Emerging Infections Program, the World Bank’s Pandemic Emergency Financing Facility, and the Pentagon’s Center for Global Health Engagement. Additionally, he is a deployable officer in the US Air Force Medical Corps Reserve, served as health advisor on the Biden-Harris Transition’s COVID-19 Response team, is a current medical advisor for external organizations such as the Seattle Seahawks and Marines. Finally, he serves as a part-time medical analyst for NBC News.
