Global Economic Outlook 2022 (Virtual)
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report published in October 2021, the global economy is projected to grow 4.9 percent in 2022, a 0.1. percentage point lower than 2021 (5.9 percent) as reported in the July IMF forecast. The downward revision is partially caused by supply chain disruptions and worsening pandemic dynamics in low-income developing countries. The economic and political environment across the globe has been critically impacted by the pandemic coupled with the higher cost of living, food insecurity, economic inequity, migration, cultural and societal changes, and mistrust in institutions and governments.
To say that 2021 was a challenging year is an understatement. Like 2020 before it, and 2022 to come, the global economy appears to be trending toward incremental recovery as the threat of new variants force governments worldwide to reevaluate and mitigate risk, but continue to move forward to create opportunities for growth.
