WACC Ambassadors Circle Series with H.E. Anne Anderson, Ambassador of Ireland to the U.S.

On March 17th, President Obama welcomed Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, Enda Kenny to the White House during his traditional St. Patrick's holiday visit to Washington, D.C. In his remarks at the White House, the Irish Prime Minister endorsed the comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which would solidify the economic relationship between America and Europe. Taoiseach Kenny further shared his views on the positive engagement with the U.S. in matters related to regional security, immigration and diplomacy. U.S. relations with Ireland are based on common ancestral ties and shared values that have provided unique opportunities for strong friendship and partnership between both countries.

Since 1990, the World Affairs Council of Charlotte annually presents the World Citizen Award to prominent citizens (and organizations) who have enhanced our community’s standing in the world their accomplishments of international significance and contributions to the city, this region and our international community. The World Citizen Award Dinner has become an important part of the educational and cultural fabric of the greater Charlotte region. Each year, a capacity audience gathers to celebrate and recognize the achievements of the recipient.

The World Affairs Council of Charlotte will host Matti Anttonen, Under-Secretary of State for External Economic Affairs in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland as part of the WACC Ambassadors Circle Series program on Monday, March 2nd, 2015. As the Ambassador of Finland to Russia from 2008 and 2012, Anttonen will share his unique perspective on the current state of affairs within the European Union and the challenges it faces in response to the Russia's tumulus relationship with the EU and the rest of the world.
