Join The Magellan Society, Young Professionals of the WACC, and Charlotte Country Day School on May 6th as we host Anthea Rossouw, Founder of the Dreamcatcher Foundation. Anthea will discuss community empowerment barriers and projects in a post apartheid South America. Dreamcatcher provides opportunities for communities living in recurrent poverty to improve their quality of life and create a future in which they can thrive. Working in 20 different communities over the past two decades, the Foundation continually strives to eliminate barriers and develop opportunities, offering a "leg up" to self-sustenance and dignity, as opposed to taking a "hand out" approach.

The Magellan Society (Young Professionals of the WACC): International Fun Run at Triple C Brewing Company

Join TMS for our first International Fun Run originating at Triple C Brewing Company on April 30th. Participants must come dressed to represent the nations/countries of their choice for a proud display of colors during the fun run. The run is designed so that participants can choose their own distance and will conclude back at Triple C Brewery.

WACC Ambassadors Circle Series with H.E. Anne Anderson, Ambassador of Ireland to the U.S.

On March 17th, President Obama welcomed Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland, Enda Kenny to the White House during his traditional St. Patrick's holiday visit to Washington, D.C. In his remarks at the White House, the Irish Prime Minister endorsed the comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which would solidify the economic relationship between America and Europe. Taoiseach Kenny further shared his views on the positive engagement with the U.S. in matters related to regional security, immigration and diplomacy. U.S. relations with Ireland are based on common ancestral ties and shared values that have provided unique opportunities for strong friendship and partnership between both countries.

Join the World Affairs Council of Charlotte on March 6th for a unique discussion with H.E. Peter Wittig who will discuss the current relationship between Germany and the United States and the opportunities for economic and trade growth, political partnership, defense and security initiatives and long-term cultural-education exchanges between the two nations. There is approximately 200 German-owned firms in Charlotte including 59 U.S. headquarters; making Germany the most largely represented foreign country in the region.

WACC Ambassador Circle Series with Matti Anttonen

The World Affairs Council of Charlotte will host Matti Anttonen, Under-Secretary of State for External Economic Affairs in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland as part of the WACC Ambassadors Circle Series program on Monday, March 2nd, 2015. As the Ambassador of Finland to Russia from 2008 and 2012, Anttonen will share his unique perspective on the current state of affairs within the European Union and the challenges it faces in response to the Russia's tumulus relationship with the EU and the rest of the world.
