The World Affairs Council of Charlotte invites you to a timely and thought-provoking business breakfast featuring a distinguished panel of community leaders on the theme “Lessons from Northern Ireland.”

As we head into what is likely to be a highly charged and divisive election season, the conversation will center on how we can draw from the experiences of Northern Ireland to foster peace, mutual respect, and unity in our communities. These insights, rooted in real-world examples of conflict resolution and peace-building, offer valuable lessons for navigating political tensions and bridging divides at a critical time.

Our panelists include:

  • Jennifer Roberts, Former Charlotte Mayor and Mecklenburg County Commissioner
  • Dr. Hadia Mubarak, Assistant Professor of Religion at Queens University of Charlotte
  • Dr. Stephanie Hand, Reverend, author, and expert in Fortune 500 business, non-profits, and faith sectors
  • Casey Crimmins, Reverend and leader with a focus on community engagement

Drawing from Northern Ireland’s experiences with political violence and conflict resolution, the panel will explore how communities can bridge divisions, build lasting peace, and promote dialogue. This discussion will be particularly valuable as we navigate the challenges of polarization and work toward a more unified future in Charlotte and beyond.
