#BreakTheBias Advancing Gender Equality in the Workplace

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women’s achievements
  • raise awareness about women’s equality
  • lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • fundraise for female-focused charities

In celebration of International Women’s Day, join the World Affairs Council of Charlotte and Bank of America for a fireside chat with three women leaders in Charlotte who will share their career pathways, overcoming multiple challenges, and their post COVID predictions.

This discussion will be moderated by Laura Meyer Wellman, WACC Director and former President and CEO of E4E Relief.
She is also the immediate past president of the International Women’s Forum (IWF) Carolinas, immediate past president of the Duke University Alumni Association, and recently retired honorary consul of France to North Carolina (Charlotte)

Biography: Rina Arline

Rina Arline is a Managing Director and Program Director for Bank of America’s newly launched Breakthrough Lab, a Global Transaction Services accelerator program. In this role, Rina collaborates across GTS and the Bank to deliver a learning and mentoring program focused on minority owned start-ups with ideas in financial technology and/or financial inclusion/wellness. Prior to her current role, Rina led a Treasury sales team with responsibility for driving over $200 million in annual revenue and managing $10 Billion in liquidity.

With 19 years at Bank of America and 23 years in the Treasury field, Rina’s expertise spans commercial banking – focusing on industry verticals with Restaurants, Sports Finance, Technology, and Power & Utilities – international business development, working capital, liquidity, and foreign exchange.

Rina holds a BA from Guilford College in History and Political Science and a MBA from University of North Carolina-Greensboro. She is also a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP). Rina is currently active on the Board for the World Affairs Council of Charlotte. She is passionate about mentoring and has been involved with the Mentoring in Women Business Program through the Cherie Blair Foundation. She currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Asian American Pacific Islander Power of 10 (AAPI P10) initiative at Bank of America.

Rina resides with her husband, Chris, in Charlotte, NC where they are involved in the local and global community through A Roof Above, Charlotte AIDS Walk (RAIN), and Charlotte International Rotary. Rina was born in Nairobi, Kenya and speaks several foreign languages.

Biography: Carolina Ko

Carolina Ko is a Senior Vice President, Senior Relationship Manager on the Charlotte Global Commercial Banking team. As a Senior Relationship Manager, Carolina is responsible for managing a portfolio of middle market client relationships along with developing new business for the firm. Carolina advises clients on a variety of strategic solutionsincluding credit, treasury, leasing and markets. In 2011, Carolina joined Bank of America as an associate in the Investment Banking division. As part of the Investment Banking team, Carolina worked on Mergers & Acquisitions advisory and Capital Markets transactions for large corporate clients within the Consumer & Retail industry. Carolina also spent time in the COO division of Global Banking and Markets where she focused on Global Corporate & Investment Banking and Global Transaction Services. In 2016, Carolina joined Global Commercial Banking and is focused on helping middle market companies achieve their strategic goals.

Carolina holds a M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University and a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in finance and a minor in entrepreneurship from the University of Florida. Carolina is Co-Chair of Bank of America’s Hispanic Latino Leadership Council in Charlotte. She also volunteers for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Loaves & Fishes and Charlotte Bilingual Preschool.
Carolina lives in Charlotte and spendsher free time with her husband, 2 sons and yorkie.

Biography: Tya Young

Tya Young is Director and treasury product manager for CashPro BillPay in Global Transaction Services at Bank of America, focused on providing payment solutions for corporate organizations with revenue of $10 million or more. CashPro BillPay is a digital banking payment solution that streamlines accounts payables process from invoice management to payment reconciliation.
Young joined Bank of America in 1994 as a management trainee in its Consumer Card Services Management Associate Program. Prior to joining GTS, Young was a senior vice president in Partnership Marketing where she was the relationship executive for top tier multi-million dollar co-brand partnerships with Fortune 500 companies, including USAir, Royal Caribbean/Celebrity Cruise Lines, Interval International and Daimler Chrysler/Mercedes Benz. She was charged with full strategic planning, contract management, national mass marketing, product management and profitand-loss management. Prior to that, Young was vice president in Commercial Card, establishing financial products and services to support multi-year commercial contract with GSA. She was the Bank of America relationship manager for the Department of Defense and worked and interfaced directly with the White House, Defense Logistics Agency, Defense Information Systems Agency and the Air Force. She established all monetary product guidelines for new product launch and was part of the executive team that designed and launched worldwide, the new commercial product and the Electronic Account Government Ledger System (EAGLS), standard for governmental commercial account management and audit controls.

Young is engaged in leading the bank’s efforts in advancing racial equality and economic opportunity, including organizing and appearing in an enterprise-wide hour-long video program focused on her family’s historical involvement in addressing the topic. She is also a member of Global Transaction Services Social Economic Action Council focused on driving economic opportunity, health care initiatives and racial equality, with a particular focus on creating opportunity for people and communities of color. She recently received the Global Transaction Services Honor
Society Award for being a ‘culture carrier’ at Bank of America Young holds a Bachelor’s degree from Hampton University and Masters of Business Administration from Queens University.
