The Global Learning Competition in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, offers a unique opportunity for middle school students to engage in research and create an essay or short video on a global issue that affects communities in a specific country.
To participate, students must complete the following tasks:
- Analyze the research prompts in depth.
- Develop an effective outline that organizes all aspects of the essay, including introducing the topic (such as poverty, hunger, humanitarian aid, or international conservation), identifying the issue from a country-specific perspective, proposing a solution, and providing evidence to support the solution.
- Incorporate credible sources to support their argument.
- Create a final essay or produce a video presentation with slide decks to showcase their selected topic.
Through this competition, students have the opportunity to enhance their research and communication skills while gaining a deeper understanding of global issues.
Participants and winners of the competition are awarded prizes and recognized in a district-wide ceremony as part of our partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
