Support the World Affairs Council of Charlotte

As we reflect on 2018 and look forward to 2019….

We have had an amazing year full of international education initiatives that brought knowledge, promoted dialogue, and inspired life-long learners within our community.

Some key highlights to consider:

  • 4,185 individuals attended the 48 WACC programs and events since January 2018
  • 600 Charlotte-area high school students attended WACC programs this year
  • Of the 185 students at Academic WorldQuest 2018, Myers Park High School took the lead and will compete at the national competition in Washington D.C. next spring
  • 450 people participated in The Magellan Society, WACC’s young professionals group
  • 121 local teachers have traveled internationally for professional development opportunities through the WACC Council Scholar Award Program
The World Affairs Council of Charlotte has continued to host thought-provoking speakers and dignitaries who have challenged our community to examine issues around the world:
  • John Brennan, CIA Director (2013-2017), discussed his experience in the intelligence community and offered insight on the most pressing security issues of our time
  • H.E. Kirsti Kauppi, Ambassador of Finland to the U.S. shared her thoughts on international economic development, human rights, and the future of the European Union
  • Ambassador Ryan Crocker, U.S. Career Ambassador to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Kuwait, and Lebanon, offered his view of current U.S. foreign policy and the history, implications, and future of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East
  • Nancy Lindborg, President of the U.S. Institute of Peace shared her perspective on current national security challenges and how the U.S. is working to build peace in high-conflict regions

We are grateful for your ongoing support that allows us to stay engaged and provide you with in-depth analyses of global issues that affect our community. As we close the year, we ask that the WACC be added to your year-end giving for 2018.
