2016 World Affairs Councils of America National Conference (November 16th – November 18th, 2016)

The WACA National Conference, held annually for over two decades, gathers our regional leaders drawn from the business, civic, and education communities. Leading policymakers and national security experts lead the discussion on the critical national security challenges before us and help our council leaders plan their programming for the coming year.

World Affairs Council of Charlotte Annual Meeting H.E. Majid Al Suwaidi (June 15, 2016)

Join the World Affairs Council of Charlotte for our Annual Meeting on June 15th as we host H.E. Majid Al Suwaidi, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates. The Consul General will share his insights into the current geopolitical state of the region, security issues impacting the area and the current state of the U.S. - UAE bilateral relations. The United States has had friendly relations with the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) since 1971, following its formation and independence from the United Kingdom. The two countries established formal diplomatic relations in 1972. The U.A.E. plays an influential role in the Middle East, and is a key partner for the United States.

TMS International Fun Run (May 19, 2016)

Join TMS for our International Fun Run at Triple C Brewing Company on Thursday, May 19th to stretch your legs, have a drink with friends, and show your colors! Dress in traditional clothing to represent the nations/countries of your choice for a proud display of colors during the fun run. Regale yourself in flags, paint your face, or don some national insignia and join us for Triple C's weekly run club. The run is designed so that participants can choose their own distance and will conclude back at Triple C Brewery.

Join The Magellan Society (Young Professionals of the World Affairs Council of Charlotte) for a special TMS Global Social at the Wine Palette on Thursday, April 28th. Come network and mingle with other internationally-minded young professionals from different backgrounds while painting international scenery. Enjoy a free glass of wine and snacks while we receive private group instruction by a professional artist, and leave with our finished masterpieces! World Citizen Award Dinner honoring Philip L. Dubois, Chancellor of UNC Charlotte (April 20, 2016)

Philip L. Dubois UNC Chancellor, UNC Charlotte Recipient of the 2016 World Citizen Award Since 1990, the World Affairs Council of Charlotte annually presents the World Citizen Award to prominent citizens (and organizations) who have enhanced our community's standing in the world their accomplishments of international significance and contributions to the city, this region and our international community. The World Citizen Award Dinner has become an important part of the educational and cultural fabric of the greater Charlotte region. Each year, a capacity audience gathers to celebrate and recognize the achievements of the recipient.

Singh, Ambassador of India to the United States: India and the US: A 21st Century Global Partnership Ambassador Arun Singh will join the World Affairs Council of Charlotte on April 8th to share his perspectives about the significant progress that's been made in bilateral cooperation and international partnership between both India and the United States. President Obama has called India one of the "defining partnerships" of the 21st century, one which will be vital to U.S. strategic interests in Asia-Pacific and across the globe.

TMS Global Spotlight (April 7, 2016)

Join TMS and The Global Studies Department of Charlotte Latin School to hear about the tremendous global impact of MANA Nutrition, a locally-based nonprofit. Founder and CEO, Mark Moore, will share his story and experiences that led him to create MANA Nutrition, which has saved over 1 million children from severe malnutrition in 17 countries around the world.
