Biography
Miloslav Stašek was appointed Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Czech Republic earlier this year. The previous year, he served as the MFA’s Director of the Economic Diplomacy Department. In the years 2010-2015, he served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of India, the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka, the Republic of Maldives, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. He was the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Sudan from 2006 to 2010. He has also held the positions of Director of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Czech MFA, Chargé d´Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kuwait and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He speaks fluent Czech, English and Arabic.

Petr Gandalovič assumed his responsibilities as ambassador of the Czech Republic to the United States on May 20, 2011. Gandalovič previously served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Parliament (2006-11), during which time he was a member of the Foreign Committee (2010-11) and a member of the Agriculture Committee (2009-10). He was also the mayor of the city of Ústí nad Labem (2002-06), the Czech minister of agriculture (2007-09) and minister of regional development (2006), as well as consul general of the Czech Republic in New York (1997-2002). In addition, Gandalovič served as minister advisor (1994-95) and director of the Economic and Information Section (1995-97) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and deputy minister at the Ministry of Environment (1992-94). Gandalovič graduated from the faculty of mathematics and physics at Charles University Prague.
